6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER

1st Reading: A reading from the Acts of the Apostles 8:5-8, 14-17

They laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Philip went to a Samaritan town and proclaimed Christ to them. The people united in welcoming

the message . Philip preached, either they had heard of the miracles he worked or because

they saw them for themselves. There were, for example, unclean spirits that came shrieking out

of many who were possessed, and several paralytics and cripples were cured. As a result there

was great rejoicing in that town.

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent

Peter and John to them, and they went down there, and prayed for the Samaritan to receive

the Holy Spirit, for as yet he had not come down on any of them; they had only been baptized in

the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

This is the word of the Lord.

2nd Reading: A reading from the first letter of St Peter 3:15-18

In the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life.

Reverence the Lord Christ in your hearts, and always have your answer ready for people who

ask you the reason for the hope that you all have. But give it with courtesy and respect and with

a clear conscience, so that those who slander you when you are living a good life in Christ may

be proved wrong in the accusations that they bring. And if it is the will of God that you should

suffer, it is better to suffer for doing right than for doing wrong.

Why, Christ himself, innocent though he was, had died once for sins, died for the guilty, to lead

us to God. In the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life.

This is the word of the Lord.

Gospel Acclamation: Stand firm forever, your truth Oh Lord is everlasting, your love my

joy, my true delight.

Gospel: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 14:15-21

I shall ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate.

Jesus said to his disciples,

‘If you love me you will keep my commandments, I shall ask the Father, and he will give you

another Advocate to be with you for ever, that Spirit of truth whom the world can never receive

since it neither sees nor knows him; but you know him, because he is with you, he is in you.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come back to you. In a short time the world will no longer see

me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live.

On that day you will understand that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you. Anybody

who receives my commandments and keeps them will be one who loves me; and anybody who

loves me will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and show myself to him.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Credo: Profession of Faith

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen

and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of

the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of

one Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made, for us men and for our

salvation, He came down from heaven: (all bow) by the power of the Holy Spirit, He became

incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake, He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is

seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the

dead, and His Kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the

Son. With the Father and the Son He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the

prophets. We believe in one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism

for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to

come, AMEN.

Bringing in the sheaves

1. Sowing in the morning, sowing seed of kindness, sowing in the noon tide and the dewy eve;

Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping, we shall come rejoicing, bringing in the

sheaves.

Refrain: Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,

we shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves x2

2. Sowing in the sun-shine, sowing in the shadows; fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling

breeze;

By and by the harvest and the labour ended, we shall come rejoicing bringing in the sheaves.

3. Going forth with weeping, sowing for the master, the less sustained our spirit often grieves;

When our weeping is over, He will bid you a welcome, we shall come rejoicing bringing in

the sheaves

Offertory 2: Take our bread

Take our bread, we ask you, take our hearts/ We love, take our lives,

Oh Father, we are yours, we are yours.

1. Yours as we stand at the table you set, yours as we eat the bread our hearts can’t forget.

We are the signs of life with us yet; we are yours, we are yours.

2. Your holy people stand washed in your blood, Spirit-filled, yet hungry, we await your food.

Poor though we are, we have brought ourselves to you: We are yours, we are yours.
